Speaking at the launch, Vice Chairperson of the committee Nguyen Kim Quy stressed that the campaign has been taken as one of the key events of the bigger and ongoing 2018 Summer volunteer campaign. By now, the youth unions of 28 littoral provinces and cities have worked out plans to organise activities to effectively protect the sea environment.
Besides efforts by the youngsters, the organising board also hopes the campaign to create a fall-out effect so as to inspire a sense of keeping the sea clean in every citizen. Measures to this end include launching awareness campaigns on the importance of the sea to the human life, the abstention of discharging rubbish in undesignated places and the reduction of use of plastic bags and other products, among others.
The campaign also calls on the community to join hands to protect the sea environment with practical acts suitable to each locality and to hold social security activities so as to encourage poor fishermen to continue their work. It aims to draw at least 28,000 participants, establish and maintain key volunteers’ groups to keep the sea clean, ease the pollution caused by rubbishes at at least 50% of the places rated as polluted, and have at least 50 initiatives in this work.
Also at the launch, the organising board also presented rubbish bins and two cars for awareness purposes to volunteers of Phu Quoc.
The campaign will wrap up at a ceremony to be held in September.
