Repatriation of U.S servicemen's remains

On June 18th, the Repatriation Ceremony of remains of U.S. servicemen who died during the war in Viet Nam was held at Da Nang International Airport.

Attending the Ceremony, for the Vietnamese side, were Representatives from the Board of Directors of Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and, for the U.S. side, representatives of the U. S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the U.S MIA Office in Ha Noi.

The Vietnamese side’s representative handed over to the U.S. side 02 (two) boxes of remains that were handed over by Vietnamese people and recovered during the 127

th Joint Field Activities from April to June 2017. The remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded by Viet Nam and U.S. forensic specialists that they might be associated with the U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Viet Nam and were recommended to bring to Hawaii, United States, for further review.

Addressing at the Repatriation Ceremony, the U.S. Government representative expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will and the efficient cooperation of the Government and people of Viet Nam.

The seeking of the remains of U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Viet Nam is humanitarian cooperation between the Governments of Viet Nam and the U.S. This is the 141th hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.
