Director of the city’s Public Security department, Le Van Tam said the system, which is already set up at 16 sites, would help supervise traffic and security on roads from Da Nang airport to conference centres, hotels and resorts during the summit on November 5-11.

He said the system would be used to monitor traffic accidents and violations as well as emergencies during the APEC event.

Earlier this year, the Da Nang launched traffic detection software to identify traffic violations in the city, aiming to support traffic polices pursuit of traffic offenders.

In 2016, the city installed security camera systems at 3,296 sites on streets, living quarters, trading centres, industrial parks, markets, restaurants, hotels, bars and offices.

Traffic cameras were also set up at 4,700 sites in 2015.

The city also has plans to install sensor systems to monitor air pollution.

Last year, the government allocated VNĐ400 billion (US$17.9 million) from the central budget for APEC preparations.

More than 15,000 delegates and 6,000 journalists are expected to take part in the event this year.
