With the determination of the education sector and the whole society, the school year 2017-2018 is expected to be a year of innovation, creativity and efficiency in spite of various challenges.

President Tran Dai Quang on the morning of September 5 attended the new school year opening ceremony at Trung Vuong Secondary School in Hanoi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang said that during the 2016-2017 school year, Trung Vuong Secondary School has gained many positive achievements while many generations of whom have since become Party cadres and elite teachers.

The President told students to study hard, as well as asked the school’s staff to discover and foster talents and dreams of their students, and to closely cooperate with their families and society for better education programs.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on September 5 attended a new school year opening ceremony at Le Ngoc Han Secondary School in Tien Giang province. The ceremony saw the attendance of Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Manh Hung; Deputy Secretary of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Tien Giang Province People's Committee Le Van Huong; and leaders of the Office of Education and Training in My Tho city and more than 2,000 students and teachers of the school.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh joins students in opening new school year in HCM city

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh attended a new school year opening ceremony with more than 1,000 students at Vo Van Kiet High School, Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City.

In HCM City, around 1.7 million students of all grades began the new school year today.

This year, the number of students in Ho Chi Minh City increased by nearly 60,000 from the previous year. Of the figure, the public school education sector increased by more than 40,000, a majority of the increase belonging to pre-school and primary levels in 12, Go Vap, Binh Tan, Thu Duc, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi districts, which see rapid urbanization and a high population growth rate. The city has built nearly 1,500 classrooms to ensure that 100% of children living in the areas (including those from immigrant families) have opportunity to go to school.

According to the HCM City Department of Education and Training, this year, the city's education sector continues to strongly innovate teaching and learning methods.

In particular, the school will focus on guiding students on self-study and group work. Students will be extracurricular activities to attach theory teaching to practice.

At 7am, September 5, more than 220,000 Thua Thien Hue province’s students gathered at their schools to prepare for the new school year ceremony. At Trung Vuong High School, girl-students in Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) were in long lines to enter the school through the gate.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in the 2017-18 school year, there were more than five million kindergarten children, nearly eight million primary school students, five million secondary school students and 2.4 million high school students. About 1.7 million students are enrolled in universities and colleges throughout the country.

In the academic year 2017-2018, the education sector will focus on nine key tasks. Of them, the two most important and fundamental tasks are: First, to develop facilities to ensure the quality of education and training activities; Second, to implement the sector’s master plan to invest in material foundations for preschool and public education programs after the Prime Minister’s approval. At the same time, the sector continues to improve the quality of teachers and educational managers at all levels to meet the requirements of the education reform, including the new education program.
