President Tran Dai Quang glowingly spoke of the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week held early last month in Da Nang at a meeting with voters of Ho Chi Minh city’s district 1, 3, and 4 on December 1.
The State leader said the successful hosting the APEC events are prominent achievements of Vietnam’s foreign policy this year, thereby enhancing APEC’s role as the region’s leading economic cooperation mechanism.
This represented a landmark in Vietnam’s international integration and demonstrated the country’s strategic vision for the Asia-Pacific region, he added.

President Quang said activities of APEC Year 2017 were held professionally, thoroughly, economically, and effectively with optimal social resources mobilized and ensured security and safety.
The President also informed voters on the results of the 4th session of the 14th National Assembly, saying that the session was held amid positive changes taking place in Vietnam and the NA continued to persist with substantial reform and enhance the quality of its activities.
Regarding anti-corruption activities, President Quang emphasized that drastic actions are needed and no one is exception in the fight. He said one of the priorities in the field is to recover the assets appropriated by corrupted officials.
The standing board of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption Work has approved a plan on completing the investigation and trial of 23 corruption-related cases of great public concern within 2017 and the first quarter of next year.
At the meeting, Quang also called for combined efforts in coping with climate change, protecting the environment and effectively and properly realizing policies and laws pertaining to child protection.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam urged the Vietnam Trade Union to reform more rapidly, deeply and substantively. It must work together with the State, enterprises and training facilities to improve workers’ professional qualifications, digital skills and adaptability.
VGCL President Nguyen Anh Tuan said achievements obtained over the past ternure reflect the close guidance of the Party, effective coordination among State agencies, local authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organisations, support from employers and, above all, the dedication and innovation demonstrated by trade union officials, members and workers across the country.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasised the need to further improve institutions and policy frameworks, develop digital infrastructure and data resources, and create the necessary conditions for science, technology, innovation and digital transformation to become new drivers of economic growth.
Prof. Huang Rihan of Huaqiao University in China’s Fujian province said the Vietnamese leader’s address highlighted three major crises currently facing the world - the crisis of the international order, the crisis of development models, and the crisis of strategic trust.
