Present techinical, policy and financing to Vietnam wind energy

In line with the increasing focus on green growth and renewable energy development in Vietnam, the Embassy of Denmark and Vestas - the world’s leading manufacturer of wind power solutions, are jointly hosting Wind Energy Seminars on the 29th of November.

Vietnam is blessed with abundant wind resources - among the richest in South-East Asia. The abundance of this independent, reliable, competitive and clean energy source is good news for several reasons.

Denmark Embassador in Vietnam Charlotte Laursen said: ”Today we aim to share unique technical, policy, and financing solutions for the wind energy sector, drawing on Danish and Vietnamese best practices. For many years, Vietnam and Denmark have worked closely together in the area of energy, under the Danida Development program, and we are able to continue to support wind energy projects under the Danida Business Finance program”.

Over the past decades, Denmark were the first country to install wind turbines more than 30 years ago and we have been a first mover in the wind industry for decades. Danish policies and strategies have supported this development and the accomplishments certainly are impressive.

This seminar presented advanced technical, policy, and financing solutions drawing on both local and international best practices to the stakeholders of Vietnam's wind energy sector The seminars also set the stage for Vestas’ official announcement of the establishment of its local legal entity: Vestas Vietnam, and the celebration of the completion of the Phu Lac 1 wind power plant, located in Binh Thuan Province.

Denmark is well prepared to help Vietnam meet, and perhaps even exceed, these targets. The Danish wind industry encompasses more than 350 companies and employs more than 30,000 people. Companies working with wind globally have located central parts of their R&D operations in Denmark. And the concentration of companies covering the entire wind power value chain is unparalleled elsewhere in the world.

The Vietnamese Electricity Development Strategy 2011 aims at 7% renewable energy share of the total national electricity production in 2020, increasing to 10% in 2030, excluding hydro-power. Wind has an important role to play in achieving these targets. Vietnam is blessed with some of the best wind resources in the region, and the aim is for wind to represent more than 2% of electricity production by 2030.
