Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on July 13 hosted a reception in Hanoi for visiting Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, during which he said Vietnam desires to foster fruitful relationship with Algeria, urging the two sides to fulfill their joint commitments and strengthen high-level delegation exchange.

Vietnam wants to bolster its cooperation with Algeria across a variety of fields, particularly economy and trade to make it on a par with their bilateral political ties.

Both nations should continue to accelerate the implementation of those contents reached at the 11th meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee in November 2017.

Vietnam welcomes the consensus reached by agencies of both sides on the formation of the Business Council, as well as their determination to go ahead with the negotiations on investment promotion and double taxation avoidance agreements, he said.

Praising the success of the Bir Seba oil and gas joint venture between the two nations, the Vietnamese government leader expressed hope that Algeria will offer more optimal conditions, especially in terms of administrative procedures, for the company’s operations.

He also affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to support Algeria’s joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and send officials and experts to help the country in this field.

In reply, the Algerian diplomat said his visit aims to augment cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria in diverse realms and briefed his host about the outcomes of his talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Abdelkader Messahel agreed with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc's proposals on boosting exchanges between the two countries' enterprises, and enhancing the role of the Business Council in promoting bilateral economic, trade and investment relations.

He underlined the need for both nations to strengthen their partnerships in major sectors like oil and gas, telecommunications, pharmaceutical production, and fisheries and agriculture and urged Vietnam to share its development experience with his nation.

The official also affirmed Algeria’s support for Vietnam’s bid to run for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2020-2021 and hoped Vietnam will support and help Algeria become a WTO member.
