The event was also attended by Mrs. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Vuong Binh Thanh, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People’s Committee as well as 50 outstanding local students.

The “Fund for Poor and Ethnic Students” was founded in 2006 and officially operational on March 10th, 2007, said Captain Nguyen Van Binh, Vice Head of the Representative Office of the Cong an Nhan dan (OK9 Cab) Newspaper in HCM City said.

The Deputy PM expressed his sympathy for the difficulties faced by the local students. With a view to supporting and facilitating poor students, the fund run by the OK9 Cab newspaper had mobilized and encouraged various organizations and individuals to render the support of 50 bicycles for poor but studious students in the districts of Tinh Bien and Tri Ton.

He also urged the An Giang provincial authorities to give more priorities to the education and training sector, especially schools in rural and border areas, and effectively carry out policies to support poor studious and ethnic minority students to overcome obstacles to their learning and going to school.
