Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin said he is elated to witness the great achievements in socio-economic development of Vietnam through his first official visit.

He emphasized that strategic partnership between the two countries has grown steadily across a variety of fields, and affirmed his nation's recognition of great importance to developing relations with Vietnam, and expanding cooperation in a new period such as digital technology, climate change response, and sustainable development, with people-to-people exchanges viewed as an important basis for bilateral relations.

The Singaporean guest informed the Vietnamese Party leader about the outcomes of his talks with National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed agreed to intensify exchanges between parliamentarians, cooperation between specialized committees, and share experience in activities of the two legislatures and cooperation at international forums.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the visit to Vietnam by the top Singaporean legislator and expressed his belief that the visit will represent an important milestone in the context that the two countries look ahead to the 50th anniversary of ties and 10 years of strategic partnership in 2023.

Trong applauded the comprehensive achievements in the two countries' cooperation and thanked the island city state for its support to Vietnam's socio-economic development.

Vietnam pursues the policy of being a friend, a reliable partner, an active and responsible member in the international community, the Party chief told his guest.

Singapore is a neighboring country in Southeast Asia, a member of ASEAN which boasts many cultural similarities and common interests. Therefore, Vietnam wishes to strongly promote the strategic partnership and cooperation in a multitude of fields, complement each other and boost closer coordination in multilateral institutions, the Party leader went on to say.

General Secretary Trong agreed on the significance of expanding the relationship between the two peoples and asked Singapore to continue paying attention to and creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the island state.

He highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two parliamentary leaders and suggested both legislative bodies continue to fine-tune laws and mechanisms and take specific measures to ram up cooperation between the two countries.

On the same day, Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and his delegation visited the Temple of Literature a famous historical relic site of Hanoi as part of their official visit to Vietnam.

The same day, the Singaporean parliament speaker and his wife wrapped up the official visit to Vietnam.
