Party Central Committee opens fourth plenum

The fourth plenary meeting of the 12th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on October 9 with Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong in the chair.

Socio-economic situation in 2016 and plans for 2017 are important issues on the agenda.

The committee will also give opinions on several major policies on renewing the growth model and increasing growth quality, productivity, and the competitiveness of the economy as well as how to effectively implement international integration while maintaining political stability in the context of Vietnam participating in new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs).

During the plenum running until October 15, the focus will also be on consolidating the Party, stop and curb the degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle along with the signs of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”within the party.

In his speech, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said delegates will review policies to settle bad debts, public investment while considering labor productivity and economic competitiveness a strategic breakthrough.

“The Party Central Committee will identify new growth models with a roadmap of up to 5 or 10 years and a vision until 2030, policies to promote science and technology, labor restructuring and quality improvement, mobilization of resources, especially from the private sector, accumulation of agricultural land, settlement of non-performing loans and weak commercial banks," he said.
