At the meeting, Sonoura handed over Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s letter of congratulations to the Vietnamese Party chief on his election as State President of Vietnam.

In the letter, PM Abe expressed his confidence that under the leadership of Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam will continue to grow and flourish. He also showed a desire to continue his closer cooperation with the Vietnamese leader to help the Japan-Vietnam extensive strategic partnership further develop in an efficient and comprehensive fashion.

Trong also extended his thanks to Japanese King Akihito for sending his congratulations and PM Abe for dispatching a special envoy to deliver the letter.

He noted with joy the comprehensive, strong, and practical expansion of the extensive strategic partnership between the two nations, while affirming that the Vietnamese Party and State always treasure relations with Japan as well as its fruitful cooperation and assistance in a wide range of fields.

Trong also commended the two sides’ coordination in launching a string of meaningful activities to mark the 45th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties throughout 2018.

Japan attributes great importance to the ties of cooperation and friendship with Vietnam and will join hands with the country to take their extensive strategic partnership to a higher level, he added.
