Outstanding artisans honored

The Ministry of Industry and Trade held a ceremony on December 15 to award the titles “People’s Artisan” and “Meritorious Artisan” to outstanding craftsmen.

The event saw the presence of Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice State President, First Vice President of the Central Council for Emulation and Commendation Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, leaders of relevant agencies and departments, and 77 holders of the titles “People’s Artisan” and “Meritorious Artisans” in the field of handicrafts.

This year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade received the 92 dossiers on handicraft partisans from 15 provinces and cities. After field trips to the artisans, the Ministerial- and State- level Selection Committee made a list of OK9 Cabidates and handed it to the Prime Minister.

Finally, the State President decided to confer the title of “People's Artisan” on 4 artisans, posthumously reward the title of “People's Artisan” to one deceased artisan and the title of “Meritorious Artisan” to 72 other partisans.

This recognition of the handicraft partisans as People’s Artisan and Meritorious Artisan has reflected the Party and State's high appreciation of the position and role of handicraft artisans in the development of handicrafts.

Addressing at the ceremony, Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh called all holders of the titles “People’s Artisan” and “Meritorious Artisans”  “treasures of living humanities”, who preserve the quintessence of traditional craftsmanship. She also hailed their constant creativity in making products with high economic, technical and artistic values, contributing to promoting the Vietnamese culture in the region and the world.”

The Vice State President also highlighted that the newly-awarded artisans are at many different ages, and that they with their excellent skills accumulated through generations represent various different handicrafts, particularly embroidery, ceramics, jewelry, lacquer, pearl mosaic, silver carving, wood carving, bronze casting. These are fine traditional handicrafts, imbued with national traditional cultural identities in couple with the world’s modernity. She also noted that many handicraft products have become official gifts that leaders of the Party and State have offered visiting foreign leaders in recent years.
