Nghe An border guards crack down on drug rings

The Northern-Central province of Nghe An has a 400-km-long border with Laos, along which there are a number of border-crossings and border tracks. Criminals take advantage of the terrain to traffic illicit drugs from Laos to Vietnam.

Against this backdrop, the provincial border guard and police forces in Nghe An have teamed up to prevent and fight cross-border drug trafficking and ensure security and order in the area.

In 2021 alone, the border guard force in Nghe An busted 37 drug-related cases, arrested 44 criminals and seized a large amount of illicit drugs of various kinds, as well as guns, cars and other exhibits.

The provincial border guard force in Nghe An also coordinated with other units to successfully investigate 59 other cases, arresting 91 people and a large amount of drug, cars, motorcycles and cellphones as exhibits of the case.

Notably on July 12, 2021, the police in Vinh City coordinated with the Thanh Thuy District Border Guard Station and the police in Thanh Chuong district to arrest Pham Xuan Tai, a resident of Hai Duong province, who was trafficking a large amount of illicit drugs, including 18 kg of crystalline drug, 3 kg of ketamine, 48,000 pills of synthetic drugs, a pistol and bullets.   

Since the beginning of 2022, the border guard force in Nghe An has detected 13 drug cases, arrested 14 people involved and seized 77,600 pills of synthetic drugs and other exhibits.

The close and effective coordination between the border guard and police forces in Nghe An has chopped off transnational drug rings and arrested many drug dealers, seized a large amount of drugs, contributing to ensuring security and order along the Vietnam-Laos borderline.
