Due to the postponement of V. League from Friday, the national team gathered on May 7 instead of May 10 as planned. The squad was requested to have COVID-19 RT-PRC test before gathering.

It was revealed Thursday that several players of the Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) club made indirect contact with a woman who tested coronavirus positive.

Players of the SLNA club would need to self-isolate at home for 12 days until test results confirm their infection status.

Head coach Park Hang-seo also decided to call up 35 men for the national team’s upcoming gathering aimed at preparing for their remaining matches in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

The list sees some familiar faces such as Tran Dinh Trong, Do Duy Manh, Doan Van Hau, and Nguyen Trong Hoang, who have returned from injury.

Due to the complex developments of the COVID-19 epidemic in many localities, the team will do all their training in Hanoi and dismiss the training camp in Binh Dinh to ensure the health and safety of team members.

Park and his players will depart for the UAE on the evening of May 26 to join the second Asian qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On May 31, the Vietnamese team are expected to have a friendly match with Jordan, who were defeated by Park’s side in the Round of 16 at the 2019 Asian Cup.
