Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Public Security To Lam gave five proposals to the National Assembly (NA), the Government, ministries, branches and localities: building institutions, ensuring economic security, enhancing crime prevention and combat, taking care of people's lives, and controlling the COVID-19 epidemic.

Regarding crime prevention and fighting, Minister Lam highlighted that the crime rate in 2020 reduced by 6.8% compared with 2019. Some urban districts and provinces saw no criminal cases for many days.

Minister Lam took Cao Bang as an example. In 2019, the Northern mountainous province’s police recorded 600 criminal cases while the province saw only 300 ones in 2020. That was only one case per day on average. The province also saw 2 months without any criminal cases.

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) vowed to reduce the number of criminal cases by 5% in 2021, and urges the NA, the Government and other ministries to mobilize all forces to join the fight against crimes.

The Minister of Public Security also asked the NA, the Government and other ministries to take better care of the  lives of people, especially those living in remote areas of the 62 poorest districts in the country. Social equality will create a basis for public security and order, and national security and defense, especially in strategic areas, Minister Lam emphasized.

Minister Lam also expressed concerns over the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world in 2021. People would travel more in the time to come, which could affect security, safety and socio-economic development. So he suggested taking preventive measures to control the situation.

He also stressed that some 14,000 people have illegally entered and exited Vietnam since the beginning of the year, causing much trouble to  the work of preventing and combating the pandemic.
