He said that relevant bodies of Vietnam have taken steps to verify the allegation in accordance with the laws.

Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for foreign enterprises to invest and do business in Vietnam so enterprises must comply with the Vietnamese laws, emphasized the Vice Vice Spokesman. All violations of the laws will be strictly handled, he added.

Earlier, on May 25, Chairwoman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Huong Giang, worked with relevant local agencies on the Tenma case.

On May 26, responding to queries about the case, Senior Colonel Pham The Hung, Director of the Bac Ninh Provincial Police Department, said that the Criminal Investigation Agency of the province has actively been investigating and verifying the allegation that some local tax and customs officials received a 25 million JPY bribe from Tenma company.

The Economic Police Office under the Provincial Police Department asked the Customs Department to provide all documents related to import and export customs declarations of Tenma Vietnam from January 2017 to now as well as the results of customs clearance of the company’s imports and exports in the period.

The case was first made public by Japan’s Asahi Newspaper when reporting that a representative of Tenma company in Japan on April 1 told the prosecutor in Tokyo that its subsidiary of Tenma Vietnam (based in Bac Ninh province) bribery about 25 million JPY (over 5 billion VND) to some local officials.

Tenma Vietnam was formed in 2007, located in the Que Vo industrial zone, Bac Ninh.
