Minister of Public Security General To Lam and Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang co-chaired a meeting to discuss the draft Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and the Law on Roads on August 1, in Hanoi.

Reports at the meeting stated that the two draft laws are different from each other in both content and scope of regulation.

The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety focuses on road traffic order and safety, including road traffic rules, road transport, vehicle drivers participating in road traffic, traffic order and safety in road transport, road traffic command and control, patrol and check of road traffic order and safety, handling of road traffic accidents, State management of road traffic order and safety.

The Road Law involves road activities, including regulations on planning, investment, construction, management, operation, exploitation, use, maintenance and protection of road infrastructure projects; road transport; and State management of road activities.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam and Minister Nguyen Van Thang hailed the close coordination of relevant units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport, saying that they seriously considered recommendations and ideas, adjusted provisions of the two draft laws and are trying to complete the two law projects.

The two ministers requested the involved units of the two ministries to continue carefully reviewing the contents of the two draft laws to ensure that they have been adjusted in accordance of opinions of the National Assembly Standing Committee at the 24th session on July 26, 2023, and the Secretariat’s Directive 23-CT/TW dated May 25, 2023 on strengthening the Party's leadership in ensuring road traffic order and safety in the current situation so that the two draft laws could soon be passed by the National Assembly.
