Minister To Lam answers press on 39 bodies found in container in U.K.

On ​​the sidelines of the ongoing 8th session of the 14th National Assembly in Hanoi, General To Lam, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security on October 29 answered questions from the press about the case of 39 people found dead in a lorry container in Essex, the U.K.

The Minister said the Vietnamese side is working closely with the U.K.authorities to identify the victims. The Ministry of Public Security and the British Embassy in Hanoi are trying to hold a teleconference between Minister To Lam and his British counterpart to exchange information on the case.

Minister To Lam confirmed that the Ministry of Public Security will send a working delegation to the U.K. to assist the investigation when being requested by the U.K. side. The Ministry of Public Security is also currently studying the documents on four victims forwarded by the U.K. side.

Regarding the rumor that 14 Vietnamese citizens from Nghe An province recently reported missing may be among the victims, Minister To Lam said that the investigation is on-going and there are no official conclusion. He also urged the families of the missing should be patient and wait for official releases from the investigation agencies.

According to Minister To Lam, as soon as the U.K. confirms that there are Vietnamese victims in the case, the Vietnamese Government will send Vietnamese officials to the U.K. to verify the identification.

Minister To Lam also affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security always gives priority to the fight against human trafficking.
