July 14 morning sees 909 new cases recorded in 16 localities

A further 905 domestic and 4 imported cases were recorded over the past 12 hours to 6 a.m on July 14 morning, with Ho Chi Minh reporting the highest number of infections at 666, said the Health Ministry.
  • National tally crosses 30,000 following detection of 622 more new cases
  • COVID-19: 598 new cases recorded, 520 cases in HCM City alone
  • COVID-19: HCM City records nearly 500 new cases over six hours
  • 355 positive cases confirmed in 16 localities, HCM City tops 200 at midday

Of the new cases in HCM City, the biggest epicenter of the virus, 458 are already in quarantine and isolated areas and 208 are being contact traced.

In addition, 80 cases were found in Dong Nai , 44 in Khanh Hoa, 43 in  Ben Tre, 19 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau (19), 18 in Phu Yen, 17 in Vinh Long, 4 in Ninh Thuan, 4 in Tay Ninh, two each in Kien Giang  Hue, An Giang, Bac Ninh , and one each in Soc Trang and Binh Dinh.

The new infections in other localities were mostly found in isolation or locked down areas or involve individuals who came into contact with confirmed patients or are linked with previous outbreaks.

With the latest discovery, the country has so far posted 33,460 local infections and 1,949 imported ones, while total recoveries stand at 9,553.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to register the highest number of infections with 1,797 cases on July 13 alone and the figure has now soared by 666 on July 14 morning.

In the face of the growing number of local infections, the Health Ministry is poised to issue guidelines for piloting self-isolation of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases in HCM City.

Patients would be allowed to quarantine themselves at home if they show no symptoms following 10-14 days of treatment.

The outcomes of the self-isolation trials in the southern metropolis would be evaluated before the Health Ministry receives feedback from other ministries and localities in order to launch the scheme across the nation.

The scheme aims to reduce the burden on hospitals, especially as the daily number of fresh cases keeps rising with no signs of abating.

Over 4 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date, with 20,551 being inoculated against COVID-19 on July 13 alone.

Since April 27 when the new wave started in Vietnam, 31,890 infections have been recorded in 58 of the nation's 63 cities and provinces, with HCM City taking the most at 16,573.
