Japan Coast Guard ship starts Vietnam visit

PSNews - Japan Coast Guard Training Vessel, the Kojima docked at Tien Sa Port, the central coastal city of Da Nang on July 24 to begin a five-day visit to Vietnam.

The delegation, with 80 officers and crew members on board, led by Colonel Tonosaki Hironoby, was welcomed by leaders of the municipal Department of External Affairs, the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard, the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard Zone 2, the High Command of the Da Nang Border Guard, and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.

The Kojima is 115 metres in length, 14 metres in width and 3,000 tons in weight.

During their stay, they will pay a courtesy call to leaders of the municipal People’s Committee, and visit the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Region II and the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard Zone 2 in Ky Ha district, Quang Nam province.

The Japanese training ship’s visit aims to enhance cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding between coast guard forces of both sides, contributing to promoting the sound friendship between the two countries.

Additionally, the Japanese guests will join a sport exchange event, and visit famous tourist attractions in Da Nang city. Also, they will perform Kendo, a traditional Japanese martial art, and Yosakoi dance at the Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange festival 2018.

This is the fifth time a Japan Coast Guard ship has visited Da Nang city.

Vietnam and Japan are active members of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAPP).
