Indonesian language officially taught in Vietnam National University in Hanoi

With the signing of the MoU, Indonesian Language is now officially taught in USSH VNU Hanoi.

Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ibnu Hadi and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University (USSH VNU) Hanoi, Prof. Pham Quang Minh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Teaching Indonesian Language at USSH VNU Hanoi on February 15.

In his remarks, Indonesian Ambassador in Hanoi H.E. Ibnu Hadi conveyed his appreciation to USSH VNU Hanoi for its effort in promoting Indonesian Language in Vietnam and hoped that Indonesian Language could be taught continuously. Ambassador Ibnu Hadi then encourage the students who will enroll in Indonesian Language class to study further about Indonesia and its language through Darmasiswa scholarship. Furthermore, Indonesian Ambassador also invites two students with the best result to have a study trip to Indonesia.

Following Ambassador Hadi's remarks, Rector of USSH VNU Hanoi Prof. Pham Quang Minh said that teaching Indonesian Language in USSH VNU Hanoi is part of the duty and mission of the university to contribute in increasing Vietnam's role in ASEAN through teaching the 4th most spoken language in the world and the first most spoken ASEAN. USSH VNU Hanoi feels proud to be the first university in Hanoi to have Indonesian Language in its curriculum.

The Indonesian Language course will be taught for the first time on February 18, 2019 with the support of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) teacher from the Center of Strategic Development and Language Diplomacy, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesian Language which is planned to be taught four times in a week will be part of the Southeast Asia study program in the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

Teaching Indonesian Language in USSH VNU Hanoi is also one of the implementations of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Education signed in 2017 during the visit of Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong to Jakarta. This effort is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam by encouraging Vietnamese younger generation to become more familiar with Indonesia.

The Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi first opened Indonesian Language program at the end of August 2018 in two places, namely the Indonesian Promotion Center – Umah Indo which open for public and Hanoi University as an extracurricular program. Indonesian language program in both places received a positive response with the number of students reaching 200 people.
