HCMC sets up medical checkpoints to control COVID-19

PSNews – The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People’s Committee on May 12 issued a dispatch requesting relevant units to strengthen measures to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.

According to the document, the City People’s Committee assigned the Department of Health to direct all local hospitals to periodically conduct COVID-19 screening tests for medical staff and patients, and raised the critical level to the highest to prevent any infection at local hospitals.

The designated local hospitals are asked to form working groups to conduct COVID-19 tests with a capacity of 50,000 samples per day and prepare more concentrated quarantine zones with a total capacity of over 10,000 beds. At the same time, each must be prepared to treat 50 to 100 COVID-19 patients according to the plan of the health sector. 

Following the direction of the Prime Minister, the HCM authority urged relevant units to urgently build more field hospitals totaling 5,000 beds in preparation for the worst scenario of 30,000 COVID-19 cases in the city.

The City People’s Committee assigned the Department of Transport to enhance information dissemination on COVID-19prevention and fight to car agents, transportation units, drivers, and transportation workers.

Accordingly, all drivers, transportation workers and passengers must wear facemasks at bus station, train station, ferry terminals and on all public transport means.

The City police forces are asked to coordinate with the Department of Health and local units to set up medical checkpoints along roads, waterways, gateways to the city. The restriction came in effect from 0 AM on May 15.
