Hanoi to duplicate “self-managed security group” model

PSNews – Since the first model of  “self-managed security group at workers’ hostel was established by the Hanoi Confederation of Labor and the Hanoi Municipal Police Department, Hanoi has now 92 groups with over 20,000 active members.  

According to Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Confederation of Labor Nguyen Huy Khanh, after over 10 years of operation, the model of “self-managed security group at workers’ hostel” has played a key role in ensuring security and order in the capital, contributing to preventing crimes and law violations.

Hanoi has now had 92 groups with over 20,000 active members.  

Over the past time, the labor federations at district level in collaboration with the local authorities held regular training sessions on common law, social knowledge, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, crime prevention and control, and dangerous diseases for thousands of workers.

According to the Hanoi Confederation of Labor, over the past 5 years, the workers self-managed groups in locality have handled 155 cases of social conflicts, reported local police on 35 criminal cases. Especially, during the COVID-19 outbreaks, the self-managed groups in Hanoi carried out many practical activities to support workers and ensure local security and order. 

However, the operation of self-managed security groups still exists limitation in many areas.

In the coming time, the Hanoi Confederation of Labor urged subordinated units to review and evaluated their operation and propose solutions to consolidate and duplicate the model in other areas.

The Hanoi Confederation of Labor also asked the Trade Union organizations at all levels to mobilize workers to participate in ensuring local security and order, while actively grasping the situation and public opinion to better support the local workers’ live.
