Hanoi rolls out socio-economic tasks for remaining months

The Hanoi Party Committee (16th tenure) convened its tenth meeting on October 13 to review the city’s socio-economic performance during January-September and put forth measures to fulfill targets set for the remaining months of this year and the next years.

Addressing the event, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai highlighted achievements the capital city has recorded over the past nine months despite an array of difficulties like climate change, flooding and drought.

Efforts by all-level Party committees, authorities, businesses and people of Hanoi have been mirrored through a decent growth rate, higher State budget collection and investment compared to the same period last year, price stability and curbed inflation, he said.

Attainments have also been made in such areas as social welfare, culture, education, health care, urban management, new-style rural area building, national defence, political security, social order and external relations, the official noted.

A report presented at the meeting shows that Hanoi’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first three quarters rose by 8.1 percent. With this pace, the city’s yearly target of 8.5 percent could be reached.

The city contributed 146.4 trillion VND (6.4 billion USD) to the State budget, equivalent to 71.5 percent of the estimate and up 16.2 percent year-on-year. Its State budget collection in 2017 is projected at over 207.6 trillion VND (9.1 billion USD), exceeding the target set by the municipal People’s Council by 1.4 percent and up 15.8 percent from last year.

The meeting heard that apart from these achievements, there remained limitations in the application of high and new technologies in agricultural production, and production-processing-consumption linkages.

Local agro-forestry-fishery products also failed to meet food hygiene and safety requirements, said Nguyen Van Suu, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, adding that industrial growth tended to slow down.

He pointed out other issues like illegal construction and traffic jam, plus wrongdoings in urban, construction investment and land management.

Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Le Hong Thang said drastic solutions are needed to deal with difficulties in investment attraction in the remaining three months, especially at industrial parks in Dong Anh, Me Linh and Soc Son districts, and the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park.

The hardest job lies in land clearance, he said, urging the districts to urgently remove difficulties facing businesses.

The delegates agreed to continue improving the local investment climate, removing bottlenecks in production and business and speeding up disbursement while raising the efficiency of the use of public investment, fulfilling budget collection and spending targets, and intensifying urban planning and management.

Apart from ensuring political security, social order and safety and national defence,  and improving the efficiency of external relations, the city will push up administrative reform and anti-corruption fight.
