According to reporters of the Public Security Newspaper, at 3pm on August 31, people started leaving Hanoi for their home villages or for the 3-day vacation. Many main roads such as Nguyen Trai, Tay Son and roads leading to My Dinh, Nuoc Ngam and Giap Bat coach stations were packed with vehicles.

The heavy traffic put significant pressures on exit routes from the city and around coach stations due to a high demand of people for travelling prior to the National Day, September 2.

From August 31 afternoon to early morning of September 1 was the period of time that many people chose to leave Hanoi. The traffic pressures were seen as very high at gateway suburbs of Hanoi, especially the southern gateway where the Giap Bat and Nuoc Ngam coach stations are located.

Traffic congestions also occurred on some main roads due to a dramatic increase in vehicles of all kinds. Against this backdrop, the Hanoi Traffic Police Sub-Department has deployed its officers to traffic hotspots to direct and control traffic flows and handle arising problems on time.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Trung Tuan, Deputy Head of Traffic Police Section No.4 said, since August 31, the section has sent 100% of its officers and soldiers to hot spots areas to guide traffic flows.

At some coach stations, the number of people waiting to buy ticket to return their home villages also increased dramatically. This year, the Hanoi Traffic Police resolutely handled coaches with violations such as illegally parking and picking up passengers. Passengers were advised to buy tickets in coach station counters to avoid frauds when travelling.

At 8pm on August 31, the traffic flow at some gateway routes of the city still remained crowded. The popular means of transportation used by many people to travel these days are motorbikes and coaches.
