Formosa to improve waste treatment capacity

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and Ha Tinh provincial Party chief Le Dinh Son have directly checked the waste management of Formosa Ha Tinh on September 08th.

Mr. Ha has requested the inspection team to closely follow-up the Formosa’s waste. It must be treated in biological tanks before discharging it into the sea. Following the standards, fishes can live in the said tanks.

Formosa was asked to strictly implement the commitments in converting technology to reduce pollution.

In addition, Formosa should check carefully the waste treatment capacity of Nghi Son environmental JSC and sign agreement separately with company having a hazardous waste treatment permit.

Currently, two automatic environmental monitoring stations were installed here, aiming to monitor the waste management. All figures will be sent directly to Ha Tinh Natural Resources and Environment Department.

Formosa's representative said the firm has dealt with 37 environmental problems out of the total 58 and has transferred US $500 million compensation package to Vietnamese Government.
