Foreign leaders congratulate newly elected Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong

 Leaders of China, Laos, Cambodia and Cuba have sent letters of congratulation to 53-year-old Politburo member Vo Van Thuong after he was elected State President of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.

In his letter of congratulation, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith emphasized that Thuong’s election as President showed the Vietnamese Party, State and people’s trust in the 53-year-old politician. He affirmed that he is ready to work alongside the newly elected president of Vietnam in order to strengthen the friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

The Lao leader also expressed his belief Thuong, with his capacity and a wealth of experience, will join the elite Vietnamese leadership to move the country forward.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping in his congratulatory message highly valued the China - Vietnam relationship and said he is willing to work together with President Vo Van Thuong to promote the two countries’ relations in a stable and healthy manner.

Xi also wished the newly elected president of Vietnam more great achievements in his new position.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni also sent a congratulatory letter to President Vo Van Thuong, expressing his belief that under the leadership of the President, Vietnam will continue to gain many great achievements, develop rapidly in all fields and play an important role in the region and the wider world.

First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez also sent his best wishes o President Vo Van Thuong after hearing Thuong was elected President of Vietnam.

He expressed his belief that the two countries will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields, consolidate the relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples based on mutual political trust while regularly exchanging each other’s experiences in their endeavor to build socialism.

The Israeli Embassy in Hanoi on its official Twitter account extended Israel’s congratulations to President Vo Van Thuong, and expressed its belief under the leadership of the new president, the Israel-Vietnam relations will further develop.

Political Bureau member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong was elected President of Vietnam at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly in Hanoi on March 2.

In his inauguration speech, Thuong vowed to be loyal to the Vietnamese Fatherland and people, as well as the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

“I will do his utmost to successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people,” said the newly elected State President at the swearing-in ceremony.
