PSNews - A festival commemorating the legendary Hung Kings’ teaching of rice cultivation to people was held in Minh Nong ward of Viet Tri city in the northern midland province of Phu Tho on February 5 (the 15th day of the first lunar month).

Legend tells that Van Lang was the first Vietnamese state and reigned by 18 Kings Hung. They taught the people to grow wet rice and chose Nghia Linh Mountain, the highest in the region, to perform rituals devoted to Rice and Sun Genies to pray for lush crops.

The worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings are related to ancestral worshipping traditions of most Vietnamese families, which forms an important part of people’s spiritual lives. It was recognised by the UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
