Facebook to remove accounts assuming names of leaders of Party and State

PSNews- Facebook will coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to remove fake accounts of individuals and organizations that forge Vietnamese leaders of the Party and State.

Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan on April 26 worked with a delegation of Facebook led by Ms. Monika Bickert, Director of Global Content Policy of Facebook.

At the working session, Facebook’s representatives expressed their willingness to cooperate closely with the Vietnam’s MIC in particular and State in general and comply with Vietnam’s laws.

Facebook is committed to coordinating in preventing facebookers from posting malicious information or contents violating the laws of Vietnam on their Facebook pages, and building a healthy and safe environment of the social network in Vietnam.

"Facebook will coordinate with Vietnam’s MIC to prioritize the removal of fake accounts with incorrect information of individuals and organizations, with the aim of fording Vietnamese senior leaders of the Party and State. Facebook will set up a direct channel between its rep-office in the country and MIC and other local competent agencies to satisfy requests from the Vietnamese side,” Monika Bickert.

Minister Truong Minh Tuan recognized and appreciated the spirit of cooperation of Facebook. He also asked Facebook to actively and effectively cooperate in preventing and removing hostile statements, fake information, slanders downgrading the credit and dignity of organizations, individuals as well as articles and acts violating Vietnamese laws appearing on Facebook. At the same time, he pledged to facilitate development and normal operation of social networks in general and Facebook in particular in Vietnam on the basis of international conventions and Vietnamese laws.

The ministry had recently asked Google to remove more than 2,200 clips with inappropriate contents from YouTube and would soon be working with Facebook to remove pages that impersonate the Party and State leaders, said the Minister of Information and Communications at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on April 18.
