According to the Dien Bien province’s Hydro-Meteorological Station, heavy rains have been reported in the districts of Dien Bien, Dien Bien Dong, Tuan Giao, Tua Giao, and Nam Po with rainfall of between 33 and 42 mm being recorded.

Over the course of the next few hours, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and fierce winds will hit these areas with rainfall expected to last for the next 12 hours, meaning there is a severe risk of flashfloods, landslides, and severe flooding across the region.

The neighbouring districts of Muong Ang, Muong Cha, Muong Nhe, and Muong Lay commune are also likely to be affected by these natural calamities.

In order to cope with the fallout from these natural disasters, the local Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue has urgently requested that localities in the region strictly monitor weather developments and mobilise necessary resources to tackle any incidents that occur.

Vang A Ho, vice chairman of Dien Bien Dong district People’s Committee, said the district has assigned relevant units to take drastic preventive measures and identify areas susceptible to landslides to limit production activities there.
