At present, the nation has recorded 1,463 locally-transmitted cases, including 770 cases which have been detected since January 27 following the country’s latest COVID-19  outbreak.

Currently, a total of 139,446 people who came into close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients, or who entered the nation from pandemic-hit regions, are being quarantined nationwide for medical observation.

During a recent visit 18 to check the COVID-19 response in the northern province of Hai Duong, the nation’s largest virus hotpot, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son said.
Hai Duong must ramp up testing and report to the Health Ministry if it requires assistance, he added.

The Minister also pointed out that the transmission of the highly-contagious COVID-19 variant from the UK, coupled with the mass movement of industrial park workers returning to work after the Lunar New Year, remain the biggest challenges to the province’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Among the patients still undergoing treatment, 163 have since tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at least once or several times.

The same day, a further 22 coronavirus patients were declared free from the virus, boosting the over number of recoveries in the nation to 1,627.

Since the initial outbreak of the pandemic in northern localities in late January, Hai Duong remains the biggest epicenter with 590 cases, trailed by Quang Ninh with 60, Ho Chi Minh City with 36, and Hanoi 35.
