Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a message of congratulations to a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which has taken place virtually with the French President and Spanish Prime Minister as the co-chairs.

Following is the full text of the message.

Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic,

Excellency Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain,

Excellency Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD,

Distinguished leaders of the OECD’s members and guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

1. I would like to convey my heartfelt congratulations to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on its 60th anniversary (December 14, 1960).

I highly appreciate the OECD’s achievements over the past 60 years. With the mission of building “better policies for better lives”, the OECD has become a leading global forum for policy discussion, contributing to improving economic policies and global economic governance. With a scientific, multi-dimensional and cross-sectoral approach based on empirical data, the OECD has been able to share with developing countries valuable experience and good practices in important development agenda, such as trade and investment, environmental protection, climate change, sustainable and inclusive development.

2. The world is undergoing fast and profound changes. The robust advancement of the 4th Industrial Revolution brings about extensive impacts on all aspects of our socio-economic life, with many growth models at both national and business level proven outdated. The COVID-19 pandemic has arisen as an unprecedented challenge, requiring global unity and coordination for a joint response.

3. In this novel context, I hope that the OECD will maintain its role in conducting research and policy consultation, fostering new momentums and growth models, upholding rules-based multilateralism, creating new regulations and norms in global economic governance, particularly regarding digital economy and e-commerce, and reforming the international tax system, toward the goal of sustainable and inclusive development for all.

4. I am pleased to note that the Vietnam – OECD ties have gone from strength to strength, with added substance. In the next phase of development, Vietnam has set the goal to become an upper middle-income country by 2030, and a high-income developed country by 2045. To realise this vision, while harnessing domestic strength is critical, we also look forward to the continued support from the OECD, thereby gaining exposure to sound practices to expedite restructuring, enhance our economy’s competitiveness and growth quality, promote international integration, and effectively fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals.

5. In celebration of the coming new year of 2021, may I wish you good health and prosperity. May the 60th Anniversary of the OECD be a success.

Thank you.
