The handover ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The, Hanoi Party Secretary Dinh Tien Dung, and Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Anh.

Representatives of the Chinese Embassy were also present at the ceremony.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi’s Municipal People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan said, according to the Hanoi urban railway network plan by 2030, the city will have 10 metro lines with a total length of 417.8km.

With its current building capacity, it would take the city 8 to 10 years to complete an urban railway project, Tuan said, so the city must make a breakthrough in implementing such an important ODA project.

The construction of Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line started in October 2011 and was basically completed in November 2018. Numerous technical tests and operation trials have been carried out since then.

The State Inspection Council on October 29 agreed to put the Cat Linh - Ha Dong railway into operation.

The total length of the metro line is 13.05km with 12 stations, starting from Cat Linh to Yen Nghia station. The trains can reach the maximum speed of 80 km/h but only the practical operational speed will be limited to around 35 km/h.

It takes the train over 23 minutes to run from the first station to the last. The train will be operational from 5am to 11pm daily.

The train will run every six minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during off-peak hours. A train can carry up to 960 people at a time and the maximum traffic volume reaches 1.02 million people/day.
