The complete victory of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign is a demonstration of the unyielding spirit and the strength of the unshakable great solidarity of the Vietnamese people, Ezequiel Ramoneda, Coordinator of the institute’s Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, said in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency ahead of the 49th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2024).

He held that the clear-sighted and smart leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) is the decisive factor in every victory of the Vietnamese people during the safeguarding of national independence, freedom, and sovereignty.

Throughout the fights against foreign invaders, the national reconstruction and development after the liberation of the South, and the Doi moi (Renewal) period, the CPV has always shown its capacity of flexibly responding to any condition and circumstance, he noted.

On the basis of the 1975 victory, the Vietnamese people have built a country with relentless development and an unceasingly promoted stature in the international arena. Over the past decades, Vietnam has continually recorded high economic growth while people’s living standards considerably improved, Ramoneda said, noting that the CPV targets a developed and high-income status for the country by 2045.

The scholar said that in an article released on the occasion of the CPV’s 94th founding anniversary earlier this year, its General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the “blood-and-flesh” relationship between the Party and the people, and that the people form the goal and impetus of the Vietnamese revolution, and the Party's leadership is the decisive factor inspiring and promoting the people’s enormous role in the country’s revolutionary process.

In the international arena, Vietnam’s role and stature have also been increasingly affirmed. The country has made numerous effective contributions to and successfully held key roles at organisations and forums, especially the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It has proactively proposed a number of creative ideas at important international organisations and forums like ASEAN, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the UN, the G7, and the G20. Vietnam has also established itself as an important link of many regional and global economic connections, according to Ramoneda.
