80 further domestic COVID-19 cases added to national count at midday

As many as 82 additional local cases of the COVID-19 were recorded across four localities over the six hours to June 4 midday, raising the national infection tally to 5,087 after a fresh wave of the virus hit the country over one month ago, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new cases found in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces were mostly detected in isolation and lockdown areas and linked to laborers working at industrial zones. In addition, those detected in Hanoi are associated with previous outbreaks and came into contact with individuals already placed in quarantine.

Most of the new cases in Ho Chi Minh City are tied to the Revival Ekklesia Mission.

The country has so far confirmed 6,657 locally-transmitted cases of the virus and 1,538 imported ones.

The death toll remains at 49, whilst the overall number of recoveries is 3,085.

Cases of COVID-19 have so far been recorded in 37 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide, with Bac Giang and Bac Ninh recording the highest number of infections.

Moving forward, the Ministry of Health is poised to roll out additional COVID-19 vaccines, with priority being given to some of the worst-hit localities. As such, Bac Ninh and Bac Giang will receive 50,000 doses each, followed by Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other localities.

According to information given by the Ministry of Health, the forthcoming inoculation drive will prioritise Government agencies, corporations, international organisations, and at-risk individuals who are workers at industrial parks and export processing zones under the direction of the Prime Minister.

Alongside the AstraZeneca vaccine, the nation has negotiated to receive additional doses, include five million from Moderna, 31 million from Pfizer, and 20 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine following the Ministry of Health reaching an agreement to purchase them from Russia.
