39th ASEANAPOL Conference opens in Hanoi

General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered keynote speech at the event.

The event also saw the presence of some 300 international delegates from police forces of the 10 ASEAN members, ASEANAPOL, its partners and observers, the Interpol.

Delivering the opening remarks, Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Chief of the Police Investigation Authority under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and Head of the Vietnamese delegation, highlighted that the Police Force of Vietnam, during its 60 years of development, has gained various achievements and made great contributions to ensuring national security and social order and safety. The Police Force of Vietnam always attaches great importance to cooperating with international friends to strengthen its capacity for prevention and combat of transnational crimes.

Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve also hoped that the Conference would help police forces of the ASEAN members, dialogue partners and observers reach a common voice in various issues as well as find effective solutions to prevention and combat of crimes.

Addressing the opening ceremony, General To Lam extended his congratulations to the ASEANAPOL members on their achievements in the past 40 years, and especially to the ASEANAPOL Secretariat on their 10th anniversary. Minister To Lam hoped that under the leadership of the Secretariat, the ASEANAPOL would further develop to meet the new requirements and counter newly emerging challenges.

The Public Security Forces in general and the Police Force of Vietnam in particular always strive to become an active and responsible member of the ASEANAPOL. Minister Lam stressed that it was an honor of the Vietnam’s Police Force to host the 39th ASEANAPOL Conference in Hanoi, and hoped that it would provide opportunity for the members to promote their cooperation and coordination in crime prevention and combat.

Minister To Lam asked all participants at the conference to discuss and propose initiatives for the member police forces to strengthen their cooperation in the spirit of responsibility, solidarity and mutual trust.

After his remarks, Minister To Lam beat the gong to officially open the Conference.
