14th National Party Congress: Igniting aspirations for development, firmly advancing the country into a new era

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is taking place at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi from January 19-25, 2026, with the participation of 1,586 delegates representing over 5.6 million Party members nationwide.

With the theme “Under the glorious flag of the Party, joining hands and uniting wills to successfully realise the country’s development goals to 2030; ensuring strategic autonomy, fostering self-reliance and confidence, advancing firmly in the era of national rise for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilisation and happiness, and steadfastly progressing towards socialism”, the 14th National Party Congress will discuss and adopt a series of key documents.

These include the Political Report of the 13th Party Central Committee; a report reviewing theoretical and practical issues in 40 years of socialist-oriented Đổi mới(Renewal); a report summarizing 15 years of implementing the Party Charter (2011–25) with proposals for amendments; and a report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Party Central Committee.

The 14th National Party Congress, which marks a particularly important milestone on the path of development of the country, does not only summariz the Party’s leadership in a term and a stage of national development, but also opens a new era – an era of nation’s rise with the aim of realizingnation’s development goals by 2030 and 2045.

According to Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, Member of the Politburo, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chair of the Central Theoretical Council, the 14th Congress is a historically significant political event. It conveys a message of unity in effort and determination to achieve national goals through to 2030 and to turn Vietnam into a high-income developed country by 2045. 

One of the issues that has drawn particular expectations from officials, Party members, and the public for the 14th National Party Congress is continuing to sharpen the strategy for fast and sustainable economic development, with science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as key driving forces, while prioritizing high-quality human resources to build a prosperous and happy nation.

The 14th National Party Congress is also expected to underscore the renewal of thinking in national governance, institutional reform.

It is also expected that the 14th National Party Congress will show strong determination to build a truly clean and strong Party and political system, persistently and resolutely combat corruption and negatives, and uphold Party discipline and order so as to meet its leadership requirements in the new situation.

The 14th National Party Congress is also expected to underscore the renewal of thinking in national governance, institutional reform, the building of a socialist rule-of-law State in service of citizens and businesses, while further consolidating national defense and security, and preserving a peaceful and stable environment for development.

These goals represent the collective will, wisdom and aspiration of the entire Party, people and the armed forces for a powerful prosperous country with a democratic equal civilized society. 

People also hold high expectation for the 14th Central Executive Committee of the Party with members, who are typical examples of moral virtues and revolutionary qualities.

The 14th Central Executive Committee also a team of outstanding Party members who should have a strong leadership ability, high credit, integrity and honor, and be bold in thinking, decisive in action and accountable, prioritizing national interests above all else. They should be close to the people, respecting and serving them as well as willing to sacrifice themselves for the noble cause of the Party, possessing innovative mindsets, strategic vision and ability to unite the masses and mobilize collective strength.
